EMINEM CROWNS HOME BOY AS HIS EMCEE

Rap superstar Eminem crowned FowL, aka Saffal Tall, an 18-year-old rapper from his home town of Detroit, as the winner of Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile final held in the city’s famed St Andrew’s Hall last night.

The contest, modelled on the freestyle rap battles immortalised Eminem’s 2002 film 8 Mile, brought eight young rappers from all over the USA to the motor city to compete for studio time with top producers in the Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica, California.

Judging them was Slim Shady himself plus D12 crew member Mr Porter and his DJAlchemist. Meanwhile, special guests included fellow Detroit native Xzibit, plus DJ Jazzy Jeff (Philadelphia) and Bun B (New York).

'A RAP BATTLE IN DETROIT IS NO LAUGHING MATTER' – EMINEM

The MCs faced three rounds in which they had to impress the judges and win over a tough Detroit crowd by improvising 60-second raps. In round one they had to refer to a series of random images projected on to a big screen, including politicians Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin (both dubbed “bitches”) and actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Pattinson (also “bitches”).

FowL began by appealing directly to the judge: "F*** this battle/Eminem, I need a deal!" but it was this line in round two that dealt the killer blow: "Who would you rather listen to?/Someone who spits the truth/or a n**** with a missing tooth?"

That was enough to win the support of the crowd and that momentum took him all the way to the final where saw off New York MC D.N.A.

"I brought it back to the crib... thank God," Tweeted the Michigan State University student who was also the youngest MC taking part in the competition.

"A rap battle in Detroit is no laughing matter,” said Eminem. “And it seems that FowL took it the most seriously tonight."

Eminem To Perform at 2010 MTV VMAs

You can't throw the year's biggest party without inviting the artist with the best-selling album of 2010. Especially if that guy happens to be Eminem, whose history with the MTV Video Music Awards is long, legendary and full of the kind of eye-popping moments that make the VMAs the must-TiVo event of the year.

Slim Shady will bless the show's stage on September 12, where he is nominated for eight Moonmen for his smash comeback album Recovery, the best-selling non-country release of the year.

Em joins an already star-packed roster of performers that includes Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B and Florence and the Machine, as well as in-house DJ Deadmau5 and host Chelsea Handler. The list of presenters already includes Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Trey Songz, Ashley Greene, Selena Gomez and Ne-Yo.

Over the years, Eminem has given some of the most iconic performancesof the modern VMA era, none bigger than 2000's Night of the Living Shadys. During that show, Em began his run through Video of the Year-winning hit "The Real Slim Shady" out on the streets of Manhattan, surrounded by an army of clones dressed exactly like him. The brigade then marched into Radio City Music Hall as Em finished "Shady" and then busted into a visceral "The Way I Am."

Even when he wasn't performing on the show, Eminem — who ranks sixth on the list of all-time VMA winners — has made his presence felt over the years, as he did in 2002 with his infamous run-in with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

Eminem wins three Teen Choice Awards

His music might not be deemed "teen appropriate," but that didn't seem to hurt Eminem's chances when it came to last night's airing of the Teen Choice Awards.

The rapper took home three awards, including the award for Best Rap Artist, Bet Rap/Hip-Hop track for "Love the Way You Lie" featuring Rihanna (check out the video here if you haven't seen it yet) and Best Rap Album for "Relapse," the album he released last May.

With three awards, Eminem had a pretty successful night, but he couldn't come close to touching the staples of teen idolatry these days.

Eminem,Lady Gaga Top VMA Nominations

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will feature yet another epic battle:Lady Gaga leading the nominations, with 13, followed close behind byEminem, who has eight nods. And on September 12 at at 9 p.m ET, the pop diva and the Detroit MC will go head to head for the coveted Video of the Year Moonman.

"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13," Lady Gaga said. "A long time ago, the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard. Together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: to make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!"Gaga will certainly be a dominant presence at the show, thanks to her nods in categories like Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and Best Dance Music Video for "Bad Romance." Gaga is the first female artist to be nominated for Video of the Year twice, for "Bad Romance," as well as her collaboration with Beyoncé, "Telephone."

Eminem, whose "Not Afraid" video is up for Video of the Year, will try to fend off his competition in categories like Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video. Plus, he's nominated alongside Drake in Best Hip-Hop Video for his contribution to the MC's cameo-filled "Forever."

"Apparently, MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!" Eminem joked. "I mean, I'll be there, but don't expect me to be nice about it."

Also nominated for Video of the Year are Florence and the Machine ("Dog Days Are Over"), 30 Seconds to Mars ("Kings and Queens") and B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams ("Airplanes").

Katy Perry's ode to her home state "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, is up for Best Female Video, along with Ke$ha's "Tik Tok"; "Video Phone" with Gaga and Beyoncé; Taylor Swift's "Fifteen" and Gaga's "Bad Romance."

In Best Male Video, Usher's epic "OMG" lands a nod, as well as Jason Derulo's "In My Head," Drake's "Find Your Love," Em's "Not Afraid" and B.o.B's "Airplanes."

Many of the pop world's recent favorites will face off in the Best New Artist category. Justin Bieber ("Baby"), Ke$ha ("Tik Tok"), Jason Derulo ("In My Head"), Nicki Minaj (for her Sean Garrett collabo "Massive Attack") and indie supergroup Broken Bells ("The Ghost Inside") will see who can dominate as this year's reigning newbie.

Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from Tuesday (August 3) through September 12.

Eminem, Jay-Z Join Drake At Toronto Tour-Closer

Drizzy brought the capacity crowd to its feet when he invited both Jay-Z and Eminem to the proceedings as the two legendary artists joined the So Far Gone artist for back-to-back performances to close out his show.

"I want this s--- forever," Drake said after introducing Bun B to the crowd and acknowledging the UGK veteran who helped open the concert.

The blaring horns of "Forever" then boomed through the Molson Amphitheatre speakers and Drake kick-started the all-star posse cut.

"Last name, ever, first name, greatest," he rapped. "Like a sprained ankle, boy, I ain't nothing to play with."

Drake was without Kanye West, who didn't appear, and Lil Wayne, who is currently incarcerated.

But Eminem, the song's other key cog, was present and he caused the crowd to shriek when he appeared onstage. Decked out in black from head to toe, Slim Shady's time was brief, but the Detroit superstar made every second count. "There they go/ Packing stadiums as Shady spits his flow," Em rapped. "Nuts they go/ Macadamian they go, so ballistic, whoa/ We can make them look like bozos/ He's wondering if he should spit this flow/ F--- no, go for broke/ His cup just runneth over/ Oh no."

The BIG Reveal: Eminem & Dr. Dre Cover VIBE's Juice Issue!

ON BEING HAUNTED BY DEATH:

Do you think about your own death? Yeah, I do. A lot. I think about it a lot. I try not to think about it but I do and it creeps me the fuck out. It creeps me out because they say that if I got to the hospital two hours later then I would be gone. I think about that a lot. When I lay in bed at night is when I think about it the most. It creeps me out man. THE BEST EMINEM DISS TRACK ACCORDING TO EM: What was the best thing someone said about you? Was there ever a hot Eminem diss? Um, no. [Laughs.] Nah, I’m kidding. Shit, there was a couple of lines Everlast said like, “You ain’t running up on me with no empty gun.” I know that there is a lot of shit that I would have said about me. ON BRITTANY MURPHY’S PASSING: What were your thoughts when you heard that your 8 Mile co-star Brittany Murphy had passed? It was crazy. It’s crazy. It’s crazy because at one point we were very close and she was a really good person. It’s crazy when you see things not just with her but just all these things that are happening in Hollywood with people in music, with people in acting . . .

. . . famous people. Famous people. Famous people are overdosing at alarming rates and—that almost sounded like a commercial. Wow. It sounded like a Sally Struthers commercial. “Please give to this charity.” Right. But they are. And it’s one of those things man where you’re famous, doctors will kiss your ass because they love the celebrity. “Oh, I can call up Eminem and get him on the phone right now. Oh, hi Marshall, how are you doing? Do you need that [prescription]?” There are doctors that will give you certain things just because of who you are.
